The Why

The Vivienne did not just perform in Liverpool’s Pride Quarter. She was the Pride Quarter. She made it feel like home for anyone who walked through its doors, and she carried that warmth with her wherever she went.

James passed away in January 2025 following a silent battle with addiction. The stigma surrounding that struggle meant he did not feel able to ask for help. House of The Vivienne CIC was founded by his family in his memory, to make sure no one else ever has to face that silence alone.

This statue is Liverpool’s answer to that loss. A permanent lifesize tribute, sited at the entrance to the Pride Quarter, where The Vivienne will watch over the community she loved as its guardian angel. Looking out over the street she made her own.

Present, permanent, and proud.

Because James chose Liverpool. And Liverpool chooses James.

The How

 
The statue will be developed in close collaboration with James’s family, and installed at the junction of Victoria Street and Stanley Street at the entrance to Liverpool’s officially recognised Pride Quarter.
 
The project is led by House of The Vivienne CIC and Proudly Said, with initial support from Liverpool BID Company and Liverpool’s civic and business community.
